The children of Lacken National School moved into their new school building on January 31st 2011. Each classroom boasts interactive whiteboards and visualizers. In 2018, a new extension was opened which incorporates a new classroom and an ASD unit.
We have a Naíonra and After-school facilities. There is a bus that brings children from Blessington and surrounding areas to Lacken.
The school is an active school, where children are involved in different sporting activities from GAA, cross country, kayaking, go-karting, archery and orienteering. We received our Active Flag in 2013. We are currently renewing our Active Flag with activities both inside and outside the classroom on a daily basis.
We are part of Green-School Ireland which is an international environmental education programme. We have Four Green flags, our first green flag recognises our efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle waste, our second green flag shows an awareness for energy efficiency, our third green flag shows an awareness for water conservation and efficiency and our fourth green flag was for travel. We are currently working on the theme of biodiversity.
We understand the importance of music for children. Every child learns the recorder from Junior Infants right up to Sixth Class. We also put on different shows throughout the year, which all the children take part in.
We have a healthy eating policy where we try to encourage children to make healthy choices for their lunches. Children are given opportunities to bake healthy treats as well as making healthy lunches and smoothies.
